Through the development of this Faith portfolio, and as a result of my faith practice in school and in church, I have developed a sense of where I'd like to go from here when it comes to my faith.
1. After my daughter was born, we needed to choose Godparents for her. This was a daunting task, as not all of our close friends and relatives are Catholic, but this is something that is important to us and to our Catholic family. We have chosen two very close friends of mine to be Godparents, and will be baptizing our baby girl this coming June. This celebration and traditional life event will be the beginning of her faith journey, and we are excited to celebrate her induction into our faith in the company of our family and friends.
2. I was baptized, but never confirmed. Within the next year, I will be sponsored, and go through the steps I need to to be confirmed within the church so that I may go to confession and receive communion. As I was not brought up in a traditional Catholic household, I did not have my First Communion, and this is something I have always regretted missing out on. Even though I may take steps now as an adult, it would have solidified my sense of belonging within the church and the church community when I was young, and I often wonder if I would have stayed away for so long had things been different. It gives me direction and incentive to pursue this now, and for that I am thankful.
3. My husband has recently become part of the Knights of Columbus. This, along with conversations with a few of my close girlfriends, has inspired me to become a member of the Catholic Women's League within my church. I spoke with a few of the ladies at the Knights/CWL Christmas party, and am excited to be involved in the church at a deeper level and to provide service to the community in this way. Though I have not joined yet, I have set this plan into motion, and may even have a few new recruits interested in joining shortly after me.
